What Are Your Intentions for 2012?

Hello Everyone,
Well, here we are in December 2011.  Another year almost over.  Time to reflect on what has gone before and what is yet to come.

It's been quite a year for me.  Beginnings and endings, dreams realized, transformation through meditation and a lot of personal growth.  I hope you have seen progress in your own life this year.

So what will 2012 bring?  Have you had a chance to sit down and think about what you'd like to see unfold for you in 2012.  Let's make the intention that 2012 will be beyond our wildest expectations.  That we will experience more LOVE, more PEACE, more ABUNDANCE than ever before.

Make a list of all your hopes, dreams and wishes and read it every morning before you get out of bed and every night before you turn off the light and without any attachment to the outcome, let's see where we are next December.  It could be quite a ride!!

Namaste,
Karen

How To Create a Meditation Practice That Will Change Your Life?

For many years I struggled with my meditation practice.  When I would sit down to meditate my mind would race and I couldn't sit still.  Why wasn't I able to silence my mind and fall into what my teacher, Davidji calls "the gap"?  So I told myself and anyone else who would listen, "Meditation is not for me.  I'm an individual and this practice doesn't work for me."  But over the years I would continue to come back to meditation hoping to find the key to becoming a successful meditator.

Now what you need to know about me is that I'm a control freak.  I'm Pitta.  I can do anything, even if it kills me.  So why wasn't I able to meditate?  In August of this year, I decided to give it another try.  I signed up for the Chopra Center's meditation intensive, Seduction of Silence.  I had two months to recommit to my meditation practice before the seminar and see if attending would make a difference.  Wow, did it make a difference!!

The key for me was letting go of all expectations that I had about my meditation practice.  One of the most common pitfalls that I think most meditators fall into is that meditation will silence the mind.  We have anywhere from 60,000-80,000 thoughts per day.  There is no way we can silence our thoughts.  What I learned, or should I say "re-learned", this past week was that meditation is a flow.  During meditation our mind flows between our thoughts and our breath or in my case between my thoughts and my mantra.  It's a beautiful dance and flow.

The next important realization was that the benefits of meditation don't come while you're meditating, they are felt in the other 23 hours of the day when you're not meditating.  I was waiting for some "miraculous" experience while I was meditating but what I've realized is that because I'm meditating my life is changing in "miraculous" ways everyday.

So, if you've tried to meditate and have found it challenging, check in with yourself and see if perhaps your expectations are sabotaging your efforts.

Take some time in the next week to reflect on how you would like the next 3 months to unfold. What will that look like for you? How can you ease into the holiday season feeling grounded and nourished? Make a list of intentions you'd like to see fulfilled in the coming months. In my latest newsletter I've included information and/or links to practices that you can add to your daily routine to bring some balance into your life. Opening the Heart

Yesterday I had an incredible Tibetan Bowl therapy session with my friend Valerie in Albuquerque.  She is in training and has been giving practice sessions for the past few months.  One of the criteria for the session is to come up with an intent that is fulfilled during the session.  Yesterday my intent was, "My heart is open to receiving LOVE from others."  It is important to phrase your intent in the present tense, as if it is already a reality, not as a wish to be fulfilled.  So, even though it is hard for me to accept LOVE, I put it out there that that is what I do.  After the session Valerie suggested that to help facilitate my intention I create a simple practice to remind myself of it.  She suggested using my breath.  When ever I notice that I'm not breathing deeply imagine the LOVE from all my friends, family and acquaintances coming into my heart as I breathe deeply.  I also decided that whenever someone is expressing their LOVE, ACCEPTANCE and APPRECIATION for me I will breathe it in as deeply as I can.

I've been practicing this technique and what I've noticed is very interesting.  As I breathe deeply into my heart I can feel a restriction in my throat and the area of my chest where the heart resides.  As if this area has been walled off, congested, and is resisting expansion.  Sixty-one years of protecting my heart from not feeling worthy of LOVE has built up quite a wall.  Wow!!!

I've already experienced a powerful result of setting this intention.  Last night I sent an email to explain why I was not participating in a monthly instructor's webinar with Chopra Center University.  The simple answer I received was, "Love you!!!"  I immediately started to breathe that "LOVE YOU" deep into my heart.  There still is a lot of restriction and resistance as I breathe deeply but I know the more I breathe in LOVE that resistance will start to melt away.

So, what do I think I'll gain from this process?  As my heart starts to thaw and accept that I am worthy of LOVE, I'll be able to love my self more and the more I let others LOVE me the more they will feel LOVED.

It's all about the LOVE!!!!

From my heart,
Karen

Healing Affirmations

Drawing upon the work of the Tapas Acupuncture Techniques, these affirmations can help you in the emotional healing process.

    1.    Everything that has brought me to this moment in time and space has occurred. I recognize, embrace, and connect with the web of synchronistic events that has brought me to the here and now.
    2.    All interwoven events that have brought me to this moment have occurred and are now in the past. I permit myself to relax, release, and allow my life to unfold with grace, freedom, and love.
    3.    I allow complete healing to occur in those places of my body, heart, mind, and soul that have been holding resistance, resentment, regret, fear, or pain.
    4.    I apologize to anyone and everyone I have hurt as a result of my constricted awareness, resistance, or fear. I wish them unconditional love, healing, happiness, and peace.
    5.    I forgive anyone with whom I associate my pain, anyone who has caused me sorrow or anguish (including myself), and wish them unconditional love, healing, happiness, and peace.
    6.    I, like everyone, deserve a life abundant in unconditional love, healing, happiness, and peace.
    7.    I commit to a life abundant in unconditional love, healing, happiness, and peace.
